Multimedia
Authoring
Multimedia authoring involves collating, structuring and presenting in
nformation in the form of digital multimedia, which can incorprate text, and
still and moving images
Multimedia Authoring Tools
:- A program that heps you write hypertext or multimedia applications.
:- Authoring tools uaually enable you to create a final applicationmerely by
linking together objects such as paragraph of text, an illustration, or a song
Most authoring system also support a scripting language for more sophisticated
applications
:- Authoring tools require less tecthnical knowledge to master and are used
exclusively for applications that present a mixture of textrual, grapical and
audio data
# Two basic features:
- Ability to create and edit a product
- Presentation scheme for delivering product
:- Four main perspectives in multimedia authoring tool:
Tools (any software package that could author multimedia product)
Product ( the result of combining all multimedia components)
Developer ( designers,
programers and multimedia authors)
End user ( coustmer or viewer)
:- There
are three types of authoring tool
1. which are
divided by style in which the multimedia presentation is created.
- Card based
- Time based
- Icon based
Types of Multimedia Authoring Tools
1. Card-based authoring tools
:- Using a card stack metaphor
:- Cards are developed that have different elements associated with them and
are put in stacks
· You can link the
cards by allowing the user to click the buttons or other elements and jump to
different card in stack
For example:-
Hypercard
Toolbook
HyperNext studio
Hyper studio
Phyton card
Revolution
. 2 Time
Based Authoring Tool Example:-
Director
Flash
3 Icon
Based Authoring Tools
With icon-based programs, you use
symbol in flowchart scheme
Each icon represents a particular event
For example, the wait icon stops the process until the user click the mouse
button or presses a key or specific amount of time passes
An advantage of icon based programs is that you can easily how is little is
structure that is the flow of a program and especially the branching
Icon Based Authoring Tools Example
Macromedia Authorware

What is
rendering?
The
term rendering defines the automatic process of generating digital images from
three-dimensional models, by means of a special software. These images simulate
project or 3D model’s photorealistic environments, materials, lights and
objects.
Particularly,
rendering is a computer-generated image following three-dimensional modelling
based on project data. The geometric model created is coated with images
(textures) and colours, which are identical to real materials, and that can be
illuminated with light sources reproducing natural or artificial ones.
Types of
Rendering
Rendering Real TimeReal-time rendering
is mainly used in gaming and interactive graphics, where images are calculated
from 3D information at a very fast pace. As a result, dedicated graphics
hardware have improved the performance of real-time rendering ensuring rapid
image processing.
Rendering
offlineOffline
rendering is a technique mainly used in situations where the need for
processing speed is lower. Visual effects work where photorealism needs to be
at highest standard possible. There is no unpredictability, unlike real time.
offline
rendering
offline
rendering refers to anything where the frames are rendered to an image format,
and the images are displayed later either as a still, or a sequence of images
(e.g. 24 frames make up 1 second of pre-rendered video). Good examples of
offline renderers are Mental Ray, VRay

Authoring and
publishing
Organizations
produce vast amounts of content to communicate with customers and prospects.
This content can be text, visual and audio visual information. Authoring tools
help in creating such rich media content and documents. Publishing tools help
in disseminating content to the target audience. Authoring tools are also part
of LMS(Learning management system), wherein they help in creating course
content and eLearning material.

Image Authoring
and rendering texture resolution
Rendering
textures onto Vignette (The Vignette effect darkens the edges of an image,
leaving the center of the image brighter. In real-world photography, this
effect is caused by thick or stacked filters, secondary lenses, and improper
lens hoods. Use the effect for artistic effect, such as to draw focus to the
center of an image)
objects in Image Authoring and Image Rendering depends on Image Authoring and
rendering texture an accurate
relationship between the resolution of the repeatable texture and the object's
size. If the texture resolution and the object size are set accurately, the
renderer ensures a perfect match.
Determine the
texture resolution:
The
texture resolution is expressed in pixels per inch (ppi).
Set
the object size: When authoring objects with the Vignette Authoring Tool in IA
for applying textures, it is necessary to specify an appropriate object size.
3D
scenes: Set the scale for the entire scene before importing the 3D data into
the object hierarchy
2D
scenes: A good sense of the actual size of the objects in the scene is required
for accurate authoring.
Flowline
objects: For both 2D and 3D scenes, set the Overall Size (in inches) of a part
(object) in the Texture Tool on the Flowline Page.
Rendering:
Image Authoring and the Image Rendering server applies the repeatable texture
to the object
